Bird by Bird, Kid by Kid, the principle stays the same

Hi Everyone,

Welcome to our class 'blog, Kid by Kid.

We'll use our 'blog in a couple of ways: First, to introduce ourselves to host teachers at Highland Park School. Second, to communicate with each other about ideas related to Literacy and teaching throughout the semester.

To kick off our site, I'm asking everyone to upload a photograph of herself along with a brief bio.

Your bio can include the same information you'll write to the parents of students in your class at HPS. In this way, you're killing two birds with one stone (a great idiom, by the way).

I'm looking forward to all the ways we can make this 'blog support our on-going learning throughout the semester.

See you soon!

Prok (Professor Kaback--can you find a famous professor known as Prok? Extra credit for anyone who discovers my "namesake" and posts the answer on our 'blog.)

a.k.a. Suzy

  1. Hey Ceramic Bunnies!! What is this Pod Cast business? Has anyone ever created one before because I have not and have no idea how to! Anyway...I have found a lesson plan (or a couple) to go along with Kate DiCamillo's "Tale of Despereaux" here is the link...check them out. They sound like fun

I clicked on Lesson 2 to look at it more. These are for younger kids, I think 2nd graders.

  2. TFSC! (I think that's the abbreviation..?)

Ok my question: I know I should probably know this but what is an annotated list of books that our author has written?

I found this site for lesson plans for Sharon Creech's stuff:

I picked one for Absolutely Normal Chaos :http://www.glencoe.com/sec/health/teachres/lessonplans/ccchaos.shtml

  3. My question is also concerning the pod casts - I am actually a little worried. It sounds fun. Who is going to teach us and when can we get started on it. And what is it exactly??

I picked a lesson plan to go along with Because of Winn-Dixie here's the link I got it from ReadWriteThink.

  4. Oh and I went to the library in Edina and the only book they had there (that wasn't checked out) of Kate DiCamillo's was a Christmas book. Its called Great Joy _ I will bring it on Tuesday.

  5. Hey CBs!!

Most of my questions were already asked, but I just wondered if anyone knew of how participation is supposed to be handled. Should we be doing all the work together, or can we delegate tasks of the final product to different team members? Also, does anyone know how we are being graded for our final project?

The only book that I have with me here is Tale of Despereaux, which I can bring to class on Tuesday.

Finally, I found a really cool lesson plan for the Because of Winn Dixie. It looks like it could be really fun. Scholastic has a lot of different lesson plans that I think we could use for Kate Dicamillo.

    See you girls in class!

  6. Hey Members of TFSC,
I read the book A Fine, Fine School, here is the lesson plan link: http://duewest.blogs.com/fine_fine_school/

I also thought went to the library and checked out as many Sharon Creech books as I could, so if anyone needs one I extra.

My question regarding the author study guide assignment: Is there a website that tells us or recommends to us what reading level a book is at?
